Allianz refugee program wins HR industry award
Allianz Australia has won the cross-cultural management prize at the Australian Human Resources Institute Awards, for its partnership with Settlement Services International (SSI) that helps refugees and migrants gain permanent work.
Allianz was recognised for its Sustainable Employment Program, which has so far provided 18 refugees with work and education opportunities.
SSI-Allianz scholarships financially support refugees so they can further their education or seek recognition for skills developed in their home countries.
Allianz Australia MD Niran Peiris says the award recognises the insurer’s efforts to foster a diverse workforce.
“We know there is a link between organisational performance and diversity,” he said.
“This drives our diversity of thinking, which in turn makes us more innovative and better equipped to serve our customers. At the same time, we are providing invaluable opportunities for those who have come to Australia following dislocation from their homeland.”
Diversity and Sustainability Manager Charis Martin-Ross says the program is about helping people reach their potential.
“Imagine the trauma of being dislocated from your home, friends and country and having to start again,” she said.
“Being able to play a small role in helping our cadets rebuild lives for themselves and their families is an honour – I can’t think of anything more important.”
