Suncorp launches second Reconciliation Action Plan

Suncorp has launched its second Reconciliation Action Plan, coinciding with the annual NAIDOC Week celebrations that began yesterday.

The plan for 2020-22 has been endorsed by Reconciliation Australia and will now move from the scoping phase to implementation.

NAIDOC is the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, which holds events across Australia celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Suncorp EGM Consumer Distribution, Banking & Wealth Chris Fleming, who is Suncorp’s Reconciliation Action Plan Champion, says the first plan released two years ago has provided a solid foundation.

“We believe our company can have the most impact by supporting financial, social and natural hazard resilience, while continuing to strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities over the coming two years,” he said.

NAIDOC Week is held each July, but this year’s event was delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak. It began yesterday and will wrap on next Sunday. The theme is “Always Was, Always Will Be”.

Suncorp is offering its staff virtual cultural tours in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to embrace NAIDOC Week.

Mr Fleming is also hosting an online panel with speakers from First Nations Foundation, AFL and Reconciliation Australia for employees.
