Risk management for quad bikes faces scrutiny

The Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) will examine what insurers can do to mitigate the risks of serious injuries involving quad bikes.

Its annual conference in Hobart in October will feature forensic engineer and quad bike expert Dr Shane Richardson, who will share his knowledge of accidents caused by the all-terrain vehicles as well as factors that might reduce risks.

The issue of banning children from riding will be discussed as well as installing crush protection devices.

Quad bikes have narrow track widths and a high centre of gravity, making them prone to rolling.

The conference will also look at ethics, defamation, the Lloyd’s restructure, driverless vehicles and flammable cladding issues.
