ANZIIF acknowledges mental health issues revealed by Insurance News survey

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance has flagged its mental health resources for professionals following Insurance News’ annual wellbeing survey.

As reported in the October/November edition of Insurance News magazine, 90% of survey participants believe the broader community views the industry negatively, and 22% say that poor image affects their self-esteem. About 48% say their mental health has deteriorated over the past year.

“ANZIIF acknowledges that insurance professionals often face high-pressure situations and, at times, backlash from the public, despite the critical role they play in supporting our communities,” the institute said today.

“ANZIIF is committed to supporting the mental health of professionals within the industry. We recognise the importance of ensuring that professionals ... have access to the necessary resources and support.”

The institute says it offers a range of mental health resources “designed specifically for those in the industry”, including the Becoming Resilient professional development activity and Finding the Resilience to Bounce Forward article.

It also says it is proud to be a sponsor of the upcoming Young Insurance Professionals Mental Health Seminar in Victoria.

“We all have a responsibility to support the mental health of those around us, in our families, friends, workplaces and communities,” CEO Katrina Shanks said.

“Only when we take a holistic approach will we make a real difference.”
