Australia is making real progress toward a truly national approach to workplace health and safety, according Safe Work Australia CEO Rex Hoy.

Mr Hoy was addressing an Allianz Australia workers’ compensation seminar in Sydney last week that was targeted at clients. He says “strong leadership and intergovernmental co-operation” has underpinned significant progress in developing and implementing nationally harmonised occupational health and safety law.

He says progress is being made on the National Workers’ Compensation Action Plan 2010-13, as well as model regulations and a proposed code of practice which incorporate national compliance and enforcement policies.

The model regulations and code of practice are due to be released in November.
