AILA invites entries for inaugural Gill award

The Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) is inviting entries for its inaugural Gill Award until mid September.

The award, open to financial members of AILA who are Australian-based residents, honours AILA founder Michael Gill.

Mr Gill, who is a consultant to major law firm DLA Piper, carved an illustrious career in Australian law. Among his many achievements were his election as AILA’s first president, the presidency of the Law Council of Australia and the presidency of the Paris-based International Insurance Law Association (AIDA). He is also the Independent Chairman of the General Insurance Industry Code Compliance Committee.

Entrants for the Gill Award are required to submit a paper of 3000-4500 words on one of 12 topics:

Accumulation of claims & subrogation; climate change; civil liability insurance; consumer protection and dispute resolution; credit insurance and surety; distribution of insurance products; marine insurance; motor insurance; new technologies; personal insurance and pensions; reinsurance; and state supervision and insurance.

Shortlisted entrants will then deliver a presentation to a judging panel which will include Thomson Greer partner Cameron Roberts.

The winner will receive $10,000 in prize money, attend an AIDA international event and present their paper to a working party.
