Zurich Innovation Championship winners to roll out initiatives

A dozen startup winners of this year’s Zurich Innovation Championship are preparing to roll out initiatives that the insurer says represent the future of the industry and have potential to be scaled globally.

One of the winners, Paris-based startup Citalid, is already preparing to integrate its cyber risk quantification platform as part of a new global service at Zurich Resilience Solutions.

The 12 winning initiatives, first announced in May and selected from more than 3500 submissions, have now successfully made it through a four-month long accelerator program and will be executed locally, or globally in the case of Citalid.

“We have built 12 initiatives that really have the potential to shake things up in the industry,” Zurich Head of Digital R&D Antony Elliott said. “The Zurich Innovation Championship is a transformative learning experience for both the startups and Zurich alike, combining the expertise of our business unit teams with innovative, tech-savvy startups.”

The winners have tested the practical viability of their initiatives and prepared business plans with the Zurich business units that selected them.

Zurich held an Innovation Demo Day at its headquarters where the 12 startups presented their initiatives, supported by executive judges for each of five program categories: Customer Experience, Commercial Insurance, Distribution Partnerships, Digital Enablement and Sustainability.

More than 45 collaborations are now ongoing globally with participants from four Zurich Innovation Championships.

“I'm thrilled to see the 12 winning initiatives. They are stepping stones toward the future of insurance,” Zurich Head of Innovation Joel Agard said.
