QBE has appointed former HSBC CEO insurance Marcelo Teixeira as Global Head of Bancassurance and Head of Strategic Development for the emerging markets division.

CEO Emerging Markets David Fried says Mr Teixeira’s appointment represents another milestone in the strengthening of senior management capabilities.

“He has a proven track record of growing businesses profitably in the global markets, in addition to leadership experience in strategy,” Mr Fried said. “We are confident Marcelo will help drive expansion of QBE’s global bancassurance and emerging market businesses.”

In bancassurance Mr Teixeira will be responsible for a strategy to drive QBE’s partnerships with banks across multiple markets. He will oversee global strategy and operation to increase QBE’s share in personal, SME and specialty lines.

In emerging markets he will lead the development of strategy and identify business opportunities and solutions, cross-regional synergies and collaboration opportunities.

Mr Teixeira has been involved in insurance and retail banking for more than 30 years.

Before joining HSBC in 2006 he held executive roles with MasterCard International, Santander and Banco do Brasil.
