Berkley Re’s regional chief to step down
Berkley Re Asia-Pacific President and CEO Grant Robson will step down from July 1.
He will remain as agent in Australia for the WR Berkley Group on a part-time basis, as Executive Chairman.
“It’s time to give it away after 43 years in the business,” Mr Robson told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “It’s time to allow others to bring in a fresher approach to the business.”
There will be no replacement for Mr Robson after he relinquishes his roles.
Instead, the job will be split between the direct and reinsurance operations, overseen by four CEOs who will report directly to US-based Senior VPs Fred Madsen and James Bronner.
Two of the CEOs oversee Australia and the other two run the Asian business.
Mr Robson says the management approach reflects the business’ growth since 2006.
“It has become a very large company. No one person can appropriately manage that alone.”
Mr Robson started his career in Sydney in 1973 and has held senior positions with several major reinsurers. He has been Berkley Re Asia-Pacific President and CEO since August 2007.
Before that he was Genworth Mortgage Insurance board chairman.
