Tributes paid to broking industry icon

Brokerage founder Warren Saunders died yesterday aged 88, sparking a wave of tributes.

Mr Saunders formed Warren Saunders Insurance Brokers in 1961, and the NSW business has grown to employ 50 staff, with offices in Kirrawee, Chatswood, and Wollongong.

He retired from the brokerage about 15 years ago, and his son John is the current MD.

John told insuranceNEWS.com.au that a service would be held on Thursday, March 9, but that due to his father’s popularity it would be best if people interested in attending streamed the service. insuranceNEWS.com.au will publish a link when it is available.

A dedicated insurance professional, Mr Saunders was also well known in wider business circles for his charity fundraising and sporting talents.

“He was a very talented cricketer back in the day,” John said.

“Staff and clients were his biggest focus. He always said if you look after the staff, they will look after the clients, and so he took the very best care of his people.

“The business has had a great culture because of those key messages.”

A tribute posted by the brokerage has already resulted in more than 300 reactions and 70 comments.

Mr Saunders also leaves three daughters and 13 grandchildren.

Warren Saunders Insurance Brokers is independently owned, but a member of the Steadfast network.
