WorkCover Queensland fills top job

Michael Pennisi has been appointed WorkCover Queensland CEO and will join the state’s Work Health and Safety Board.

Mr Pennisi was previously CEO at QSuper, QInsure and QInvest, and also served as QIC MD and mentors executives in various sectors.

He replaces Bruce Watson, who retired in February after seven years in the CEO role. Deputy CEO David Heley has been acting CEO during the recruitment process.

“As demands on WorkCover increase in our state, this will be an extremely demanding role and we feel confident in Mr Pennisi,” WorkCover chair Anthony Lynham said.

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace says Queensland is committed to keeping workers’ compensation premiums the lowest of any state or territory.

“This will be a challenging role and Mr Pennisi’s experience as a trusted adviser to executives and organisations in diverse sectors including financial services, aged care, infrastructure, non-profits and social housing will serve him well.”
