Taser minister loses power
The NSW minister who threatened to taser an Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) manager has been relegated to near-political oblivion.
But it wasn’t the action of Police and Emergency Services Minister Tony Kelly in threatening ICA lobbyist Alex Sanchez and another unnamed manager in November that caused his demise. Mr Kelly has become a victim of NSW Premier Nathan Rees’ latest reshuffle brought on by the resignation of John Della Bosca. He has lost police and rural affairs, retaining responsibility only for the lands portfolio.
The new Police Minister is Michael Daley, who is seen as one of Mr Rees’ most loyal supporters.
Mr Kelly introduced the controversial State Emergency Service levy on insurance policies.
