Liquidator appointed to unlicensed broker
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has obtained orders in the Supreme Court of NSW appointing a liquidator to C&A Richards, the company which operates Lennox Heads-based Insurance Made Easy and Cootamundra Insurance Consultants.
C&A Richards directors Christopher and Annette Richards, who ASIC says operated as unlicensed brokers, have also been permanently banned from conducting a financial services business or arranging a contract of insurance as an agent of an insurer.
Rural & General Insurance Brokers and Allianz have terminated agency agreements they had with the companies.
Mr and Mrs Richards, who ASIC says also arranged insurance without written agreements and failed to pass on premiums, have agreed to orders requiring them to write to their clients to advise them of the orders and to ask them to check with insurers that their insurance is in place.
