Queensland holds WorkCover rates
The Queensland government says it will freeze WorkCover premiums for the next financial year.
The average premium rate will remain at about $1.34 per $100 of wages, following discounts. The rate increased by 4.11% the previous year.
Employers are entitled to discounted premiums based on their efforts to support return to work, improving workplace safety and providing early payments to the scheme.
State Industrial Relations Minister Jarrod Bleijie says the freeze is welcome after a 12% rise over the previous three years.
“This decision represents certainty for Queensland businesses while maintaining a strong focus on supporting injured workers,” he said.
“WorkCover Queensland has one of the lowest average premium rates in the country, supporting injured workers to return to work.”
Chair of WorkCover Queensland Chloe Kopilovic says the freeze stems from the fund’s strong financial position.
