ARPC board adds new member

Julie-Anne Schafer has been appointed to the board of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) by the Federal Government for a three-year term.

The ARPC was established to protect against a global withdrawal of terrorism insurance for commercial property after terrorist events in the US on September 11 2001.

Ms Schafer, who will hold the position on a part-time basis, has extensive board experience and is currently a director at Queensland Urban Utilities, CS Energy and Av Super and President at National Competition Council.

She was Chair at the National Injury Insurance Scheme, Queensland until May and was formerly a director at the Territory Insurance Office for four years.

“This appointment will ... help ensure that the key sectors of our economy are effectively insured and protect Australia’s economy in the event of a declared terrorist incident in Australia,” a statement from the office of Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar said.

Ms Schafer joins board members Elaine Collins, Maria Fernandez, Robin Low and Jan Van Der Schalk and ARPC Chairman Ian Carson.
