South African group Budget Direct Insurance is laying claims to being Australia’s cheapest car insurer. The Sunshine Coast-based company says it is currently selling more than 1600 car insurance policies each week. 

CEO Michael Weston said Budget Direct is very good at service. “When you focus as we do on car insurance, we’re not trying to be all things to all people; therefore we have to be very good at what we do,” he said.

He said research shows that out of every state and every age group, Budget Direct is cheaper, sometimes quoting less than half the price of its competitors. Budget Direct first opened its doors for business in Australia in September 2000.
