ICA sends a wish-list to canberra

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. At least, that’s what the Insurance Council has decided. It has sent a submission to the Federal Government calling for a number of issues to be considered before the politicians and Treasury mandarins finalise the federal budget. ICA has mapped out a number of issues that could – or should – have budgetary implications. In a pre-budget submission, the Insurance Council said structured settlements, flood mitigation, national competition policy, regulators’ charges and insurance taxes are major areas for consideration.

“These issues are of concern to insurers, taxpayers and policyholders, and also have a direct impact on the 2001/2002 budget,” Executive Director Alan Mason said.

The submission has been distributed to Treasury and key government and shadow ministers.
