FOS hails its fast-track resolution process
The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) says its new fast-track dispute resolution process is delivering in the general insurance sector.
The issue was discussed at the service’s general insurance open forum in Melbourne last week, with the industry showing strong support for the initiative introduced in July.
“What we are finding is the majority of these matters are resolving, and resolving quite quickly,” Lead Ombudsman for General Insurance John Price told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“If we are having issues, then it is with the industry being able to keep up with the speed.
“But it is just a few teething issues, nothing too extreme. People need time to adjust.”
Mr Price says more disputes than anticipated – more than 30% – are dropping into the fast-track process.
The forum introduced Sally Davis, FOS’ new GM Code Compliance and Monitoring and CEO of the Code Compliance Monitoring Committee (Code of Banking Practice).
“There was also an opportunity to talk to adjudicators about their roles,” Mr Price said.
The Sydney general insurance open forum is on Wednesday.
