Flexi-hose alternative arrives with ‘no burst’ boast
Queensland company No Blows has launched an alternative to flexi-hoses made from copper and brass that it says is “guaranteed to never burst”.
Every year, 22,000 tap tail connectors fail under sinks, costing $660 million in repairs, according to co-founder Stephen Orr, who developed the alternative after finding the braided stainless-steel component of flexi-hoses was failing.
The No Blows product is made of durable yet malleable copper piping.
“Our product can and will save millions in insurance payouts, as well as hundreds of thousands in repairs to damages caused by the flexi-hose bursting,” the company says.
Flexi-hoses link water pipes to sinks, toilets, dishwashers and washing machines and usually consist of rubber pipes surrounded by braided stainless steel.
Some insurers estimate more than 20% of home water damage claims can be blamed on burst flexi-hoses and have issued warnings to customers.
“Poor-quality flexi-hoses have no longevity and are not designed to handle high pressure; they require annual maintenance checks, and the stainless-steel braid corrodes and rusts, leading to blowout,” No Blows says.
