Choice rates car insurers
An ever-expanding market of car insurers is giving consumers more options in cover and price but also making it harder for them to select from an “abundance of choice”, according to consumer organisation Choice.
The March edition of Choice magazine reviews 44 motor policies, rating them on customer satisfaction, policy features, and which is best for groups such as young and older drivers, people wanting the cheapest cover and those who have an accident history.
Choice says the range of policies in the market provides more opportunity to customise cover and find the best price, but consumers need to consider how the policies work, such as whether small claims will trigger a higher premium.
On the customer satisfaction rating, Adelaide’s RAA Insurance comes first, followed by specialist car insurer Shannons, and fellow Suncorp brands Apia and Suncorp.
Choice also scores companies on features in their cover, pointing out a lower score is not a bad thing for people wanting only basic cover.
On this rating, RACV Complete Care scores the highest, with 87 out of 100, followed by Bankwest and IAG Comprehensive Plus, which includes the NRMA Insurance, SGIC and SGIO brands.
