Consultations open on updated smash repair code
Stakeholder feedback is being sought on changes to the revised Motor Vehicle Insurance and Repair Industry Code of Conduct.
The code administration committee wants to hear about changes to several key areas, including sanctions and penalties, assessment and estimations times, methods of repair and dispute resolution.
The committee, representing the Insurance Council of Australia and the Motor Trades Association of Australia, will also consult on proposed changes to its governance structure.
Chair George Manos says the committee is looking to hear from insurers and collision repairers, “as well as from broader stakeholders, including government bodies across the country.
“To support stakeholders navigate the proposed new code, the [committee] has developed an explanatory memorandum. Whether through the website or targeted industry engagement, the [committee] has worked on making the consultation accessible for all stakeholders.”
Motor Trades Association CEO Matt Hobbs says the consultation is a “critical opportunity for stakeholders to provide direct input, voice their perspectives and help shape the final version of the code. We strongly encourage participation from across the sector, as the feedback received will play a crucial role in refining the code before it is finalised and implemented.”
The consultation is open until April 29.
