TAL has established an underwriting operation in South Africa to support its Australian business.

A spokesman confirmed to insuranceNEWS.com.au that the business opened last year in Cape Town and employs fewer than 10 staff.

“It has been set up to support the Australian operations and provide customers with continuous support due to the different working hours,” he said.

The Australian business continues to recruit for the South African operation and is currently seeking a quality assurance officer for the underwriting team.

The spokesman says neither TAL nor parent Dai-ichi Life plan to sell life insurance in South Africa.
