ICA asked about royal commission
Committee Chairman Tim Wilson asks about the industry's response to the royal commission, and how ICA is tracking progress, before Deputy Chairman Andrew Leigh moves on to landlord insurance.
There are about one million landlord policies in Australia, ICA says, but all insurers are different and "it has not been possible" to agree a united position on how the sector should respond to COVID-19.
Dr Leigh is concerned about a reduction in rent default cover.
He is also concerned that insurers might be pursuing tenants directly for lost rent. "It hardly seems in the spirit of things," Dr Leigh says.
ICA says it is up to particular companies how they respond, but Dr Leigh is critical of what he calls a "hands-off" approach.
