Bandt wants faster action

Mr Bandt says ICA is not showing enough urgency on climate change, and that some members want quicker action.

Mr Bandt asks if some areas in Australia will become uninsurable if steps are not taken.

Mr Whelan says nowhere in Australia is currently uninsurable. He says he would like to see increased attention by government to deal with affordability and "punitive taxes" on insurance.

Mr Bandt recalls research by Climate Risk that predicts 720,000 uninsurable properties in Australia by the turn of the century.

Mr Whelan says the figures "sound hypothetical".

Mr Bandt asks on notice for any ICA analysis on the effects of a 3 or 4 degree rise on members and insurability in Australia.
