Bandt asks about climate change

Greens leader Adam Bandt is trying to pin ICA down on its beliefs on climate change. He wants Rob Whelan to confirm exactly what the temperature rise will be, and over what time period.

Mr Whelan says he's not an expert in this area - but ICA is on board with the science and "we do believe Australia is particularly vulnerable to climate change".

Mr Bandt asks for an ICA view on whether the world is on track to limit temperature rise to 2 degrees.

"At the end of the day the ICA is concentrating on adaptation," Mr Whelan says. He says ICA has to deal with things that are happening right now.

Mr Bandt says the science shows we are on track for a 4 degree rise, which would be catastrophic, and that ICA is "selling its members out" by not pushing for more action.

Mr Whelan says the approach needs to be global "to make a real difference".

"We would always consider greater emissions reduction to be a long term goal," he says.
