QBE acts as recommended insurer in eGroup exit

QBE will act as the recommended insurer for eGroup customers following the withdrawal of the UK-based insurer from the Australian market.

eGroup has pulled out of the Australian market to focus on its core operations in the UK. The move comes three years after the local launch of direct personal lines players eBike insurance and eCar insurance.

In its absence QBE will act as the recommended insurer for existing eGroup customers. It is angling to expand its motor portfolio when current eGroup underwriter Calliden concludes its existing arrangement.

Calliden Group Executive Marketing and Distribution Mike Hooton told insuranceNEWS.com.au that Calliden will cease to be the underwriter of the eCar and eBike portfolios from August 1.

QBE EGM Corporate Partners and Direct Tony MacRae says the insurer is “excited about the opportunity to further expand our motor portfolio in Australia and we obviously look forward to assisting the customers of eGroup through this transition to QBE”.

eGroup Commercial Director John Gannon described QBE as a natural fit for the motor portfolio.

“It was important our customers were offered the choice to be protected with one of Australia’s most trusted and respected insurers,” he said.

QBE has established a dedicated team to ensure a “smooth process for those customers who choose to transfer their car and motorcycle policies to QBE”.

QBE declined to provide further details when approached by insuranceNEWS.com.au.
