Aon joins Monash-led weather research centre
Aon is participating in a Monash University-based consortium researching how the region’s weather is being reshaped by climate change.
The Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Weather of the 21st Century involves more than 20 academic institutions and organisations from Australia and overseas. It started in February and will run until early 2031.
Aon says it is committed to being at the forefront of climate science, to help better manage and advise on risk, improve resilience, and drive innovation in analytics and catastrophe loss modelling.
“Aon has a strong history of academic collaborations, none more so than in the field of climate science,” head of Asia-Pacific climate analytics Tom Mortlock said.
“Through close association with this new centre, we will continue translating cutting-edge research into actionable insights for our clients.”
Other Australian organisations involved include the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO, government departments, renewables group GSES, WaterNSW, and IAG. Global partners include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the UK Met Office.
21st Century Weather director Christian Jakob says connecting the group’s research with real-world applications by working with industry is critical for success.
“We are looking forward to working with Aon and applying our weather change discoveries to better describe the future of weather-related risk to many sectors of society,” he said.
