Agile’s local Lloyd’s syndicate up and running

Australian underwriting agency Agile says its new Lloyd’s syndicate has started operations here and in New Zealand.

Agile Syndicate 2427 is focused on accident and health, aviation, casualty, construction, financial lines and property business.

As previously reported, Agile received in-principle approval from Lloyd’s to create the syndicate in March. It has been established under Lloyd’s “syndicate in a box” framework and will be managed by Asta through its third-party platform.

Agile announced last week the syndicate has received “permission to underwrite” from Lloyd’s, the final regulatory approval required to start its underwriting business.

“This important final step allows Agile to bring new capacity solutions to its partners, stabilising access in areas that have proven to be profitable across the cycle,” Agile CEO Robin Barham said. “Our digital distribution hugely improves the speed of access for simple risks, and by having our class of business leaders based locally, there is no overseas referral chain on complex risks.

“Our brokers already know the underwriting team and we enjoy deep relationships with our key partners. We look forward to bringing them the benefits of this new vehicle.”

Agile says it has a significant presence across the east coast of Australia, with teams based in NSW, Victoria and Queensland, which will provide the syndicate an immediate infrastructure to grow.

“This is a historic time for Agile and we are extremely pleased with the permission to underwrite,” Agile Active Underwriter Mark Hunt said. “Many months of planning and preparation at last come to fruition and we now intend to deliver on that proposition.”
