Zurich chief raises $11,000 with outback car trek
Zurich’s Sydney-based Head of Group Insurance Darren Wickham has raised more than $11,000 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Mr Wickham is participating in The Outback Car Trek to raise money for the charity. Zurich donated $5000 to the cause.
“Huge thanks to all who donate including and especially Zurich Australia,” Mr Wickham said on LinkedIn.
“I'm passionate about supporting the Flying Doctors. I’ve seen firsthand the vital role they play in rural and First Nations communities. They were instrumental in the covid vaccination effort.”
In early June, Mr Wickham and a rally driving team will “head off into the desert” in a 1970 five speed HT Holden Kingswood. The route will take in Parkes, then western Queensland via Cameron Corner, ending in Hervey Bay. Carbon emissions will be offset for the first time this year.
Established in 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service provides a lifeline for those in remote Australia and has grown to become the world’s largest aeromedical organisation. In the past year it saw 337,686 patients, held 23,633 medical and dental clinics, and flew 29 million km – equal to 34 trips to the moon.
