Zurich Australia has been named National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) general insurer of the year, ending an 11-year winning streak by QBE.

CEO Daniel Fogarty was “very humbled” to accept the accolade at the association’s convention in Melbourne today.

“There is still a lot of work to do to get our business where we want it to be, but we feel we are on the right path,” he said.

The insurer beat fellow finalists Allianz and QBE to win the award, which is voted on by NIBA members, who were asked to nominate the general insurer they considered best on 10 service and product factors.

Only national insurers operating in the broker market are eligible. More than 800 votes were cast and the ratings were independently analysed.

NIBA President David Wyner congratulated Zurich, which relies solely on the broker channel, for its support of NIBA members.
