James Smorthwaite of JLT Sydney has replaced Andrew Shepherd as Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs) Australia and New Zealand President.

Mr Shepherd vacated the position following his promotion to Client Operations Team Leader at Marsh.

During his three-year tenure he oversaw the creation of YIPs branches in Tasmania and Canberra, built relationships with similar entities in Canada and London, and created a fund to attract graduates and school-leavers to the industry.

He also expanded the management committee and led an overhaul of the YIPs website, which will be unveiled soon.

Mr Smorthwaite was previously YIPs VP and sponsorship officer.
