WA broker wins NIBA student award

Perth-based broker Alexandra Fox-Slater has been named college student of the year by the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA).

Ms Fox-Slater, a services executive at Aon Risk Services, wins $1000 in cash and a place in QBE’s eQuip training program.

She works with Aon’s SME clients, is a member of the NIBA Young Professionals Committee and the association’s mentoring program.

Ms Fox-Slater earned her diploma of insurance broking with NIBA College this year and was student of the month for May.

“Alexandra came out on top of the pile when taking all factors into consideration,” NIBA Professional Development Executive Linda Evans told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“She is relatively new to broking but her dedication to earn professional qualifications and enhance her understanding of the industry was evident in the quality of her work. At every stage of her studies she produced work of the highest standard and she is a very worthy winner of our inaugural award.”

Ms Fox-Slater was one of three finalists for the QBE-sponsored award, chosen from a list of 14 winners or joint-winners of the student of the month prize.

The others were NSW pair Cristen Giles, of Carriers Insurance Brokers, and Megan Butchart, of OAMPS, who each win $500.

QBE has now started sponsoring the student of the month award.

“We are proud to be making it possible to recognise and reward the excellent work of NIBA students,” QBE Australia and New Zealand CEO Colin Fagen said.

Ms Fox-Slater, who has three years’ experience in broking, will receive her award at the NIBA Convention in Melbourne next week.
