Veteran marine broker Mark Lonergan retires

One of the local insurance industry’s most experienced cargo and logistics insurance brokers, Mark Lonergan, has retired.

Melbourne-based Mr Lonergan began his career in the London Market in the mid 1970s where he worked for a number of Lloyd’s brokers, honing his craft over 10 years before moving to Australia and spending 30 years at Midas Insurance Brokers.

At the start of 2018, he helped establish the Melbourne cargo and logistics office of AlphaXO Risk Partners.

AlphaXO MD Andrew Glover says his extraordinary service to clients was greatly appreciated and his “chance to put his feet up is thoroughly well deserved”.

“We are sad to see Mark retire from the business,” Mr Glover said. “He leaves a strong, experienced team that will continue to expand. We wish him all the very best in his retirement.”

Long-time colleague, AlphaXO Senior Marine Broker Andrew Gordon, says it was an honour and a privilege working alongside Mr Lonergan for almost 15 years.

“His knowledge of the cargo and logistics insurance space is absolutely second to none and the team has benefited greatly from this,” Mr Gordon said.

Established in Australia in 2007, AlphaXO is part of the Howden Group. It recently appointed Claims and Operations Executive Matthew Williams and moved to larger premises in Melbourne.
