Vero prepares for a hot, wet and busy summer
Vero is running a series of training roadshows in Queensland and NSW for brokers to prepare for possible weather-related claims this summer.
It has also improved its online claims service, including tools for brokers with information on the service and more on-ground support from business development managers.
Suncorp EGM Commercial Claims Matt Pearson says Vero’s events claims team has also been given more training and the company has introduced new ways of settling low-value claims and delivering emergency payments faster.
The Bureau of Meteorology says Australia is facing a tough summer, with higher than average rainfall in the north and above-average temperatures in the southeast, which will increase the bushfire threat.
Mr Pearson says recent catastrophes in Queensland have changed the way the company deals with natural disasters.
“We’ve all learned from Cyclone Larry, Yasi and the other weather-related events and improved our approach to natural disaster management, both on an individual business level and as an industry,” he said.
“They’ve taught us about a new level of response and triggered an ongoing review across our portfolio of products.”
Mr Pearson says brokers should ensure their customers include flood cover in their insurance even if they do not live near flood risk areas.
“Many businesses didn’t realise that even if they were not in flood areas they could be impacted,” he said. “Suppliers could be directly impacted if they are unable to provide services or supplies.
“Business needs flood cover on their policies to trigger any business interruption.”
