UK insurance staff ‘show most pride in their work’

Insurance workers have more professional pride than staff in other sectors, according to a UK survey.

Overall, about 58% of respondents are proud of their profession, recruiter Randstad says.

But the figure rises to 90% in the insurance industry, putting it top of the table, followed by property (83%) and media (81%).

Rail workers prop up the ladder (32%), along with accountants (44%) and nurses (45%).

UK insurance professionals work an average of 39 hours and 15 minutes per week. In industries where pride is lower, employees work fewer hours.

“Pride in your profession isn’t just good for employees – it’s good for business,” Randstad UK CEO Mark Bull said.

The survey also reveals salary levels have little impact.

“We know that professional pride among employees isn’t about pay,” Mr Bull said. “It relates to an intrinsic sense of what working in that profession means to them.”

About 2000 people took part in the study.
