Phil Doring, of Queensland-based Phil Doring Insurance Brokers, has died aged 65 after a battle with bowel cancer.

He founded the business in Mackay in 1990 and led the team until his semi-retirement in 2010.

Mr Doring was well known and respected in the industry “by clients and people he worked with”, according to his son and company MD Tony.

He is survived by his wife Agnes, sons Tony, Tom and Matthew and four grandchildren.

Mr Doring’s funeral will be held tomorrow at St Francis Xavier Church in Bridge Road, Mackay.

Tony Doring will tackle the Ride to Conquer Cancer cycle race in October, hoping to raise $50,000 for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
