TIO conference offers diverse line-up

The Territory Insurance Conference this month will address topics ranging from cyber security to claims management for psychological injury and reinsurance trends.

Territory Insurance Office GM Insurance Michael Hoare says the line-up reflects the diversity of work performed by the NT’s insurance-related businesses.

“The population of the territory is not huge and having a program that is more general than other conferences really works here,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

The conference, at the Darwin Convention Centre from October 22-24, features injury management and general insurance streams.

Gallagher Bassett MD Jon Winsbury will discuss preparing catastrophe claims, and Censeo/Cerno National Risk Services Manager Hugh Khull will present a practical application of risk surveying, using a case study.

Barrister Greg Pynt will focus on issues for contractors and insurers arising from operator-generated contractual indemnity and insurance procurement clauses, while CGU’s Chris Sama will discuss using social media to connect with customers.

The injury stream will address returning people to work earlier, dealing with pain and mental illness and tailoring intervention to bolster resilience.

More than 250 delegates are expected, and the inaugural Territory Insurance Awards will be presented at the gala dinner.

Mr Hoare says the conference gets bigger every year, with police, fire and emergency services personnel registering to attend this year.
