Suncorp NZ introduces parental leave course

Suncorp New Zealand has announced a new initiative for its employees to help financially prepare them for parental leave.

The insurer says its “Financial Baby Prep Program” will equip new parents with critical financial knowledge and skills, such as managing a baby-related budget and estimating changes in family expenses, as they prepare for a significant life adjustment.

Suncorp says it will be the first company in New Zealand to put a cohort of its employees into the online program, which will be provided through the financial wellness platform Crayon.

Suncorp NZ EGM People and Culture Catherine Dixon says the program will be free of charge and reflects the company’s culture of “fostering overall wellbeing, both in the workplace and at home”.

“Caring for others is one of the values at Suncorp New Zealand and we are committed to supporting our people during this time,” Ms Dixon said.

“We want our people to feel ready to step into parenthood and this course will give them the tools and resources needed to create a solid financial foundation for their growing whānau.”

Suncorp NZ Tribe Lead – Digital Connectivity Annabelle Thompson says the initiative will provide her with an “invaluable tool” as she prepares for an addition to her family.

“There are costs that are indirectly related to having a child which aren’t obvious in the beginning, so it’s been great to be able to cover these with my husband able to join too,” Ms Thompson said.

“A real win for our family, I know this course will be helpful for others.”
