Suncorp manager Cherie Gray is to hike to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru, to raise more than $100,000 for charity Youngcare.

Ms Gray, Manager Distribution Strategy – Workers’ Compensation Portfolio, will begin the walk through the Andes with 12 other people on Thursday.

They will follow the Moonstone Trail – an isolated and more challenging alternative to the popular Inca Trail, with altitudes of up to 4500 metres.

Youngcare supports young people with care needs who would otherwise be forced to live in facilities for the elderly.

There are 7500 such people in Australia, while another 700,000 are cared for at home, often with limited support.
