Suncorp makes smart move in Melbourne

Suncorp has moved into two new “smart” offices in Melbourne.

Its flagship Collins Street site in the CBD houses more than 1500 staff, working in flexible workspaces without designated desks.

An office at Fountain Gate in the southeast will be used to train a call centre team of more than 230 people, who will mostly work from home.

Suncorp Group Executive Peter Affleck says flexible workplace design has improved productivity and attracted more quality candidates.

“We’re recognising the office is not one-size-fits-all, and we need to cater for a variance in work types and styles.

“The key to making it successful has been implementing a much more flexible approach to when, where and how work is done.

“The benefits are threefold. We’re attracting more talented people, building highly effective teams and creating a more diverse workforce.”

Smart environments are also more environmentally friendly, Mr Affleck says.

“Electricity is the main culprit of greenhouse gas emissions for a financial services company. By consolidating buildings and putting in sensor or timed lights and energy-efficient fixtures, we are reducing emissions and saving money.”

Suncorp has signed a 10-year lease on 12 floors of the office at 530 Collins Street.
