Suncorp launches enAble resource for staff with disabilities

Suncorp has launched a new employee resource group, enAble, to provide dedicated support for staff with disabilities.

enAble fosters an inclusive and caring environment for those with disabilities, as well as carers and people who support them at Suncorp.

The group’s co-chair, Henry Macphillamy, says Suncorp is fostering a forward-thinking and dynamic environment.

A lawyer in Suncorp’s Corporate Advisory team, he also identifies as having a disability, being blind and moderately hearing-impaired.

Mr Macphillamy has a law degree, competes in long-distance running events and has trekked up Mount Kilimanjaro, and says no one wants to be defined by what they can’t do.

"I know from personal experience that someone with a disability is more than capable of making important contributions if the right supports are in place,” he says.

He says he wants to make it easier for others with disabilities coming through the employment pipeline, and to help his colleagues and leaders have a better understanding of disability in all its forms.

“The most important trait any workplace can bring to the table is an ability to listen and a willingness to learn and adapt,” she says.
