Steve Waugh goes into bat for NIBA

Registrations have opened for this year’s National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Convention in Adelaide from September 14-16.

Cricket legend Steve Waugh will be the opening keynote speaker – on the subject of leadership – and will also attend the opening reception.

“We expect he will have a lot to say about leadership on and off the cricket field,” NIBA CEO Dallas Booth told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Mr Booth says the convention – themed “Own the Future” – will consider the possible landscape for brokers 10 years from now.

Issues covered at the event will include digital technology, emerging risks and trends such as cybercrime and the way catastrophes may affect the market in future.

A panel session on the future of the broking industry is expected to be a highlight of the convention. It will feature Steadfast MD Robert Kelly, Austbrokers CEO Mark Searles, Aon CEO Lambros Lambrou, OAMPS CEO Mike Cutter and JLT Chairman Steve Ball.

The two-day format – plus opening reception on the 14th – will be maintained after a successful debut last year in Melbourne, when 1000 brokers attended.

Free entry to the exhibition hall will also continue.

“We have had a lot of good feedback about the shorter, sharper event and we expect the two-day format to continue for the foreseeable future,” Mr Booth said.

The event could return to Melbourne next year, and is expected to be back in Sydney by 2017, when the new Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre will open.
