Victoria and NSW will host a series of information seminars on the forthcoming harmonisation of Australia’s occupational health and safety (OHS) system.

With the public submission period open until April 4, seminars have been scheduled in Australia’s two most populous states during February and March to explain the new laws.

The patchwork of state and territory OHS laws will be replaced on January 1 next year with a new national system developed by government body Safe Work Australia.

The streamlining of Australia’s workplace regulation laws seeks to ensure all workers are entitled to the same work health and safety standards, regardless of the jurisdiction in which they operate.

Victoria’s WorkSafe will hold the first of seven seminars in Traralgon on February 25, concluding with Mildura on March 11.

NSW Workcover will begin its public education drive on March 8 with meetings in Petersham, Wagga Wagga, Narrabri and Wolli Creek.

The final raft of sessions will take place in Campbelltown, Hurtsville and Randwick on March 28.

The NT’s WorkSafe authority has already held information sessions in Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

No information sessions are scheduled in WA, SA or Queensland.
