Seminars aim to improve workplace safety

Safe Work Australia is offering free “virtual seminars” on workplace safety next month, in a bid to prevent accidents and increase productivity.

The interactive sessions are part of National Safe Work Month and feature business leaders, academics and workplace health and safety experts sharing knowledge through daily live broadcasts and online Q&A events.

The seminars will focus on mental health, safety in the manufacturing and construction industries, and good work design.

“Good work design gives the highest level of protection against harm,” Safe Work Australia Chairman Ann Sherry said.

“It also enhances business success and productivity and workers’ health and wellbeing.”

Safe Work Australia CEO Michelle Baxter says as of September 10, 111 workers have been killed at work this year.

“National Safe Work Month is a time to focus on mental health in the workplace to prevent death, injury and disease, and our online seminars provide a wealth of ideas, experience and insight to improve work health and safety practice across Australia,” she said.
