US risk manager John R Phelps will address a Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) event in Melbourne on December 5.

Mr Phelps, who is President of RIMS, will discuss “managing risk through strategy planning and execution” at the Risk Forum, the first event hosted by the society’s recently formed Australasian branch.

Other speakers include Zurich Proposition Manager Daniel Radulovic and Swiss Re Head of Global Onshore Energy Division Stanley Cochran.

Workshops include an insight to the future and the challenges ahead; emerging risks; managing future technology and cyber risks; insurance market expectations of future risks; and culture drives risk outcomes.

Roundtable sessions include transforming risk management following a catastrophic loss; corporate integrity; reputation and brand management; and corporate responsibility in the future.

Mr Phelps has served on the RIMS board since 2003. As Director of Business Risk Solutions at healthcare company Florida Blue, he has handled responses to hurricanes, floods and other emergencies.
