Recruitment survey to prompt funding drive

An insurance industry workforce survey is currently being analysed, with the results expected to form the basis for joint action to promote the sector to new recruits, Zurich CEO Daniel Fogarty says.

“We’ll hold roundtables with the heads of human resources from the major broking companies and major insurance companies in October and November,” he told last week’s Australian Professional Indemnity Group conference in Sydney.

“Then we’ll come back to the CEOs and ask for some money [to promote the industry].”

The Careers in Insurance Survey, carried out nationally in July, identifies trends in recruitment, skill shortages and staff retention. It questioned human resources executives and senior managers.

Mr Fogarty wants to see the industry send representatives to careers fairs, schools and universities to sell the industry. It may also try to attract more career-changers.

The survey was held by the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, with the support of Zurich, the Insurance Council of Australia and the National Insurance Brokers Association.

Mr Fogarty spoke at a panel discussion that also addressed gender equality and diversity at senior levels of the industry.
