Auckland-based IAG subsidiary NZI has appointed Jon Watson as its Head of Rural Insurance.

Mr Watson has an extensive background in the New Zealand insurance industry, specialising in rural cover, with experience in loss adjusting, claims and segment management.

He was with Vero for seven years to 2013, including five years as New Zealand rural manager and then as executive manager rural insurance.

NZI EGM Travis Atkinson says the company is a leading provider of rural insurance, and Mr Watson is expected to expand its presence in the market.

“Jon will work closely with brokers and the existing NZI distribution network to enhance our rural insurance [offering].”

Mr Watson, who begins the role this week, will be based in Christchurch.
