NZ expo paves way for more UAC events

The Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC) says its first expo in New Zealand next year is likely to lead to more events in the country.

The expo at SkyCity Auckland will follow an Insurance Brokers Association of New Zealand breakfast meeting addressed by Lloyd’s Chairman John Nelson.

UAC GM William Legge says about 20 booths are likely at the February 16 event, with agencies from Australia and New Zealand represented.

“We would also like to do another expo in New Zealand next year,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

UAC aims to have 20 full-voting NZ members by the end of next year, up from three in September 2013.

Mr Legge says the group’s expansion plan includes contacting NZ businesses that do not necessarily consider themselves underwriting agencies, but which fit the UAC criteria.

UAC has a code of standards and ethics, and Mr Legge says membership contributes to the standing of individual businesses and the broader sector in the community.

“By joining in they are adding value to their proposition,” he said.

Expos across New Zealand could replicate events held annually in Australian capital cities and regional areas.
