NZ conference agenda covers regulation, broking and global themes

The New Zealand industry will seek comment on the Earthquake Commission and Steadfast’s growth plans at next month’s Future Watch conference.

Finance Minister Bill English will discuss insurance and government at the Insurance Council of New Zealand-run event, and Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee will outline the future for Christchurch.

Mr English is responsible for a review of the Earthquake Commission announced last year.

Steadfast CEO Robert Kelly will discuss the future of broking. His group moved into New Zealand in April, buying a share in Rothbury.

Insurance Council CEO Tim Grafton says the industry is also seeking guidance on licensing regulations. It will hear from consultant Geof Mortlock, formerly of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority.

Gen Re Global Treaty Manager Mo Tooker will give a global and local perspective on reinsurance and Lloyd’s Singapore MD Kent Chaplin will discuss insurance penetration.

A CEOs panel will comprise Jacki Johnson of IAG, Cris Knell from AIG, Martin Kreft of Munich Re, Chris Black from FMG and Chris Curtin of AA Insurance.

This year’s conference has a strong political theme, with New Zealand going to the polls next year. It will be held in Auckland on November 13.
