National Transport Insurance (NTI) Senior Underwriter Marine Randy Pietersz will retire on Friday, ending a 46-year career in the industry.

He started at Union Insurance in 1972 and stayed there 21 years before joining Associated Marine, where he worked 20 years.

Vero recruited him in 2013 as a senior underwriter.

“I really enjoyed every bit of it [but] you’ve got to eventually call it quits,” Mr Pietersz told insuranceNEWS.com.au. However, he is not ruling out a comeback.

“I think you need to have that work-life balance, and things may happen. You never know.

“Will I get back into underwriting? I really don’t know. It depends what the market has to offer. But right now I am not looking for that.”
